On a hot summer day in the partially restored Spanish monastery of Santa María de la Valldigna (established in 1297), one senses the ancient craft of building spaces in harmony with nature and climate. We escaped the blazing sunlight into what I believe was the original dining hall and looked back towards the portico entrance to the entire complex. It was only then that the panorma of the surrounding hills is fully appreciated.
