Fukushima
On March 11, 2011, the Tohoku earthquake (9.1 magnitude) off the coast of Japan caused a 15 meter high tsunami, which resulted in meltdowns and explosions of nuclear reactors. Approximately 20,000 people died, more than 160,000 were evacuated and much of the beautiful area remains uninhabitable due to nuclear contamination.
