15th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
Gannet Crash Landing
I was observing Northern Gannets on Bonaventure Island of the coast of Quebec, Canada. I was impressed by the dichotomy of how graceful these birds were when they flew, but how clumsy they were when they landed.
