GANPATI VISARJAN

GANPATI IMMERSION OF MUMBAI Ganpati Visarjan, or the immersion of Lord Ganesha's idol, marks the conclusion of Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations in Mumbai. It typically takes place on the 10th day of the festival, symbolizing the return of Lord Ganesha to his celestial abode. The event is characterized by grand processions, where thousands of intricately decorated idols of Ganesha are paraded through the streets of the city. Devotees sing, dance, and chant devotional hymns as they carry the idols to various water bodies, such as beaches and lakes, for immersion. The most famous Visarjan sites in Mumbai include Girgaon Chowpatty, Juhu Beach, and Versova Beach. The spectacle is a blend of devotion, cultural expressions, and community spirit, but it also poses environmental challenges due to the use of non-biodegradable materials in the idols. In recent years, efforts have been made to promote eco-friendly alternatives, such as idols made from clay or natural materials.
