Gateway Ring
The shape of the Gateway Arch in St. Louis is a weighted catenary curve—the curve of a hanging chain—a curve determined by gravitational force. The Gateway Arch is thus, paradoxically, hanging up into this sky. This photograph captures the Gateway Arch and its reflection--a reminder of its elegant mathematical origin.
