Gateway to Winter
Duluth's Aerial Lift Bridge appeared to be a gateway to the frigid winter scene beyond on Lake Superior. The sea smoke is caused by evaporative cooling, when subzero air temperature and warmer open water of Lake Superior create winter fog. It has a ghostly appearance as it glides through the Aerial Lift Bridge from the Duluth Harbor.
