16th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest People
A young boy and a basketball.

All a parent wants is for their child to grow up happy and fearless. This little boy has no care in the world. All he wants is to be able to throw the basketball up in the air and have it go through the hoop. Even though he is unable to do so, he will try over and over again until he is satisfied. It may take the little boy years and years of practice, but when he finally makes his first basket, he will feel as if all his hard work has paid off. Until then, the little boy will continue to miss every shot he takes on the ten foot hoop but will be the happiest failure there is.
