Ghostfishes

From behind driftwood in the Hudson River, far from their home, I saw friendly smiling ghost fishes (Aphyonidae is a family of eel-like fishes in the order of Ophidiiformes) peering out at me oblivious of the claws of bark above them or the possibility that they were not really alive but only reflections.
