Giant hummingbird in Peru's Sacred Valley
The hike to the Inca remains of Moray in Peru's Sacred Valley was downhill along rolling lush green fields surrounded by the Andes, making it a haven for birds. We were able to spot several giant hummingbirds because of the loud and distinctive whistling sound they make. Giant hummingbirds are found along the Andes and, as their name suggests, they are the largest members of the hummingbird family, weighing almost twice that of the next heaviest species and ten times the smallest.
