14th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
Gin enjoying life after being rescued and healing from a facial gunshot injury.

I found Gin in March 2016 as I traveled home after dropping off my kids at school. He appeared very hungry and had an injury to his face. After 15 minutes of coaxing he just jumped in my arms and off we went. The vet took X-rays and he had a healing gun shot wound to the jaw. The vet estimated the injury at 2 weeks to a month old. He was so hungry because he had been struggling to eat with broken teeth and shrapnel wounds in his mouth. I took him home, took care of him and over the following months he's come a long way and is healthy and happy - this photo exemplifies his new life.
