14th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
Golden Orb Weaver

I live close to an area that's home to many thousands (if not millions,) of spiders. I have come to love the female golden orb weaver (so named for the color of their webs.) These females can get up to 4" long, including the legs, and build enormous webs--among the largest in the world.
