18th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
Goodbye Family

During the months of the pandemic, I was isolated, and I couldn’t leave my home, like many of us. I only had left a small piece of nature in my backyard. That was all. I really wanted to go out and shoot, but I could only take advantage of what I had. I focused on this little piece of nature. These snails were almost dead when I found them. I sprayed them with water to revive them, but only one survived. He moved forward on his way; the others stayed behind him. The only association I had in my mind was with all the people who lost their friends, families and loved ones in the pandemic but managed to stand up and continue their lives.
