GRAND CENTRAL TERMINAL- NEW YORK CITY

GRAND CENTRAL TERMINAL - NEW YORK CITY A world-famous landmark, Grand Central Terminal is a living link to railroading in America, standing as a symbol of the country’s past, present and future of passenger rail travel. Not only functioning as a key transportation hub for hundreds of thousands of people annually, Grand Central Terminal is also a shopping, dining, and cultural destination with more than 60 shops, 35 places to eat and a full calendar of events all within 1 extraordinary building. Functioning much like a city within the city, Grand Central Terminal opened in 1913 and in its lifetime is a story of great railroad station design, engineering, survival and rebirth that parallels the growth, decline and rebirth of railroading in America. In 1978 Grand Central Terminal was granted landmark status, establishing its continued stewardship of passenger rail service for generations to come. My photograph of Grand Central Terminal attempts to capture the scale, charm and passenger activity at sunrise in the main hall.
