Grand Haven Lighthouse and Sun Setting during the 2025 Canadian Wildfires

In this sun-setting shot, Dave Thompson’s mastery of exposure, contrast, and mood created something deeply poetic, and maybe a little ominous. Against the smoky sky affected by the vast 2025 Canadian wildfires, Dave captures the Grand Haven Lighthouse in an ephemeral, dramatic atmosphere, using the light so heavily filtered by smoke that the cloud layer is invisible, he catches the lighthouse in silhouette. Soft reflections on the water catch the deep orange glow of the setting sun, while deepening shadows giving weight to the structure and space for the surrounding emptiness to hang as if suspended between earth and sky. This photograph is not just a record of a place; it’s a visual meditation on uncertainty, nature’s warnings, and the impact of man, all rendered through Dave's skilled eye, and rare sensitivity to the fragile interplay of light and atmosphere.
