17th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest People
Grandma Mary

My work depicts a dreamy atmosphere within the real world. In the brainstorming process, I was inspired by different photographers such as Julia Margaret Cameron, Sally Mann, and Richard Avedon. I wanted to express my interest in the 19th century and contemporary photography. These photographs represent some of the people who have impacted me for the past two years in the United States. I wanted to capture their likeness in a simple way. My influence for the Victorian Era can be seen in the different poses. I photographed them to remember them. I see photographs as personal and precious memories. They do not grow old or change. It is about showing the timeless quality of photography. The lith process emphasizes this idea of a frozen memory.
