Our family watched as this heron flew far out over the ocean and then back. It landed a good distance down the beach from us and started walking in our direction, closer, closer… We froze. I didn't dare take my camera from my face. It came so close, within 3ft maybe, that I have to zoom my lens back in. Once it decided it was close enough, it just turned around and walked back down the beach. This close encounter was the highlight of the trip.
