Grey Crowned Cranes in Flight
We came across a large swoop of Grey Crowned Cranes next to a waterhole in Tanzania’s Ngorongoro Crater. Even better was the sight of them taking flight as they soared gracefully in their dark-chestnut, black and white wings, with their distinguishable golden crowns and red wattles clearly visible. These birds can only be found in warmer parts of Africa in wetter habitats like inundated grasslands and swamps, which are under threat from overgrazing and drainage. They are classified as endangered by IUCN.
