Black Grouses use to gather on a rural hay field for their spring display fights. The location is situated close to my holiday cottage, about 10 km from the Russian border. This time the field was covered by snow. I had to go into hiding in a dedicated photography booth before the sunrise. After an hour of waiting Black Grouses started to appear. And fights started immediately. The photography session lasted until 09:00 am or so. The spectacle started shortly before the sunrise at around 03:30 am. Here two male birds are in the midst of their struggle.
