This is a male ruby-throated hummingbird (Archillochus colubris) was born in 2016 in the Blue Ridge Mountains near Lynchburg, VA, USA. He is beginning to grow his colorful ruby throated neck colors. In a few days he will begin his winter migration south. Ruby throated hummingbirds have been known to winter as far south as Colombia. When he returns, next Spring, his neck will be fully covered with bright, flashy, red feathers.
