Our Padres is a photography series depicting the immigrant Latino men who came to the United States and raised a new generation. Their struggle to provide a better life for their children defined their lives, and it opened up a path for new opportunities. They are recontextualized against a colorful backdrop — lionizing them and their sacrifice. They are shown doing one of the many jobs from their past. In that way, it's a celebration of their labor and selfless perspective. By framing these hard-working men as heroic, but real, figures, I seek to communicate gratitude as well as interrogate the multi-generational process of integrating into a new society.
