Moments before, the gull had plunged into the surf, somehow spotting the crab beneath the waves. The gull did not win the ensuing battle, as the crab got help: my 10-year old daughter chased the gull, who dropped the crab. She then carried the crab along the beach, away from the gulls, and released it. Location: Napatree Beach, Rhode Island
