This photo was taken on the shore of Lake Superior, near Superior, Wisconsin. I was struck by the contrast between the gull's peaceful expression and the drama that must have superseded it. All too often we have a "Disney" understanding of nature. It's really more like Tennyson’s ‘Nature Red in Tooth and Claw’.
