These are the seeds of the gum tree (gum nuts). I was hiking in Kuitpo Forest in South Australia on the Tinjarella Trail and as I tend to look closely as I pass bushes or trees if I'm in the mood, I found a lady bug. Then I found more ladybugs as I started paying more attention.
