Hagia Sophia: A Symbol of Peace, Harmony and Religious Tolerance

Turkey is the only Muslim country in which Islam is not the state religion, while Laicism is protected by the constitution. Turkish Laicism is a model in the Middle-East and the world in general. Turkey is an example of religious tolerance; for more than a century Muslims, Jews, and Christians have been cohabitating together in peace and harmony. Hagia Sophia is a symbol of harmony, peace and tolerance in Turkey. It is an important symbol in Istanbul because it is a meeting point of the world’s religions. The walls of Hagia Sophia represent a blend between Islamic arts and symbols of Christianity. Hagia Sophia was a Church, a Mosque and today it’s a museum. Every year millions of people visit Hagia Sophia to admire its architecture and feel its atmosphere of peace, harmony and tolerance throughout the centuries.
