16th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
Hairy Sand Dune
While hiking at Assateague National Seashore, I noticed this scene and thought it would create an interesting piece. I felt it would cause people to pause and question. The nearly white sand with dormant sand grass created a high contrast scene and looked as if the dune was growing hair.
