Hajurama looks over Naurikot

Sustainable travel redefines the meaning of the word tourist and changes the purpose of traveling and visiting different parts of our world. Sustainable travel is exploring new parts of the world by stepping outside our comfort zones and investing a maintainable system in a community. This image depicts a grandmother in a village high in the Annapurna region in Nepal. While studying abroad in Nepal, with an international development program, we (the students) stayed with families in Himalayan villages and would attend class for two hours in the morning, then work with the families for the rest of the day. Duties included farming, harvesting, cooking, listening, and learning. This represents sustainable travel by creating an environment where both travelers and locals work together to learn new things from each other and impacts are made in lasting ways.
