Harvest in the Palouse

A few weeks ago I visited the Palouse for the first time. Harvest time had come 2 weeks earlier than usual this year and everywhere huge combines were out and about bringing in mostly wheat, barley, garbanzo beans and lentils. The soil in the Palouse is extremely fertile, but also extremely fine and wherever the combines go, they leave a light, fine dust that floats through the valleys like a river.
