20th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Drone/Aerial
Heartbeat

Chicama wave is the longest wave in the world. It is located in Northwest Peru, near Puerto Malabrigo. I wanted to gift myself something truly special and magnificent for my birthday. It took me 30 hours to get there, really squeezed my time as I only had 5 days to go back and forth from the USA. It was totally worth it. The place is magical, not only the wave itself but lazy Puerto Malabrigo as well, which is a tiny, fishing village. The area is known as the birth place of ceviche, which I really enjoyed. As well the spot where surf was invented, they had discovered 3000 years old clay figurines, depicting people riding Caballito de Totora (reed vessels still in use in the area for fishing and recreation). Cannot beat all this as a birthday present for myself...
