Helicopter Returning to Fire with Bucket
The fire fighting helicopter flies tireless deliveries of water to the Pioneer Fire in the Boise National Forest. The fire started July 18, 2016 eight miles North of Idaho City and spread North, Northeast and Northwest creating a horseshoe of fire around Lowman, Idaho. They fly from the river to the fire dumping their fire suffocating load on specific coordinates. The unique whooshing sound of helicopter blades fill the skies never quieting until dark. By September 3, the fire will have burned 180,000 acres (281 square miles).
