13th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
Hidden Zion--Face East in the Afternoon

Within Zion National Park off the beaten path of millions, came this unique shot never seen before. Traveling wisely and preserving nature in it's glory, sustainable travel is possible. After seeing the damage of tourism in Zion, I chose to park and walk away from the crowds to see what is truly meant by sustainable travel. It's about preservation and respect for our world and it's future inhabitants. There was not a footprint in the sand, no voices, no people, and yet a few hundred feet away there were thousands.
