High on Public Transport

The Teleférico in La Paz, Bolivia is the world's largest cable car network with ten lines that connect various neighborhoods, suburbs, and the satellite city of El Alto. It is as affordable as the local buses and the only feasible system to bridge the significant differences in altitude that range across 3,000 feet within city limits. It connects the more impoverished areas on the outskirts with the center, allowing the largely indigenous population of street vendors to make a living in town, and sparing them a long commute up and down the hills along congested traffic veins. Powered by electricity (partially generated from the solar panels each car carries), the modern sky-metro helps reduce carbon emissions significantly. In the back, La Paz’s cityscape and landscape coalesce into one spectacular panorama at 12,000 ft of altitude.
