20th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Artistic
Hight intensity training at night

Like other Khmer pagodas in Soc Trang province, Vietnam, Chrôi Tưm Chắs is closely associated with the cultural, daily and spiritual life of the local community. Members practice overnight in front of the Chroi Tum Chas pagoda yard to prepare for the traditional boat race (Ghe Ngo is about 25 to 30 meters long), part of the Khmer Ok-Om-Bok festival. The Khmer boat race on the Maspero River (Soc Trang) has become a feature of the Mekong Delta and is indispensable in the Ok-om-Bok ceremony, on the 15th day of the 10th lunar month (November 8 this year). This is the time for the Khmer to express gratitude to the Moon Goddess for bountiful crops and abundant seafood. Every day, many tourists come here to visit and take pictures, a famous spiritual tourist destination of Vietnam in general and Soc Trang province in particular.
