Himba women, Damaraland, Namibia

Showing the elaborate hair styles and crowns that mark the status of women in the tribe, these Himba women relax in their small village encampment. In the background are small items of jewellery and ornaments that they make to earn extra money. The Himba are cattle rearers, which is their primary means of support, and the men are often absent from the village tending their herds.
