Hinakazari 雛飾り in Nagoya

On 3 March, Japan celebrates Hinamatsuri(雛祭り, Girls' Festival) - 1 of 5 seasonal festivals held on auspicious dates of the Chinese calendar. The festival is filled with Hinakazari (雛飾り, pictured here) - displays of seated dolls of the emperor, empress, and attendants in a wedding of the Heian period (794AD-1185AD). With traditions linked to peach blossoms and weddings, young girls and women of the household arrange the Hinakazari a few days ahead and celebrate with festive food (arare, mochi, daifuku) and sake (non-alcoholic included) in the company of their friends.
