Historic One Room Schoolhouse (1889 - 1933)

This is a historic one room schoolhouse near Buena Vista, Colorado. It served students from 1889 to 1933. Behind the school was a barn where students could keep their horses during the school day. Heat was provided by a large coal fired stove. The schoolroom contained wooden desks, an Edna pump organ, maps on the wall, slate blackboards, and a bucket with dipper for drinking water. The glass windows have been covered with plywood to prevent vandalism, and the building has been re-roofed. The bell has been removed from the bell tower. There were 25 female teachers and one male teacher over the years. How interesting would it be if one could go back in time and sit through a class day!
