20th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
Holding onto the forest

In an era of climate change, deforestation and other human threats, Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is still a place that provides a safe and sound habitat for mountain gorillas. One moment high above, the next nearly fallen: Witnessing the first climbing attempts of this young mountain gorilla of the Rushegura family was a unique experience. It is in our hands to preserve this habitat and the breathtaking beauty of this forest.
