20th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest The American Experience
Holiday Food Store

Pictured here is the apparatus of my communities destruction. Like most black people in America, I live in a food desert. Pictured here is what we locally call a corner store. These stores pop up in poor black communities all over the country and they take advantage of the local population. The is no real food inside the Holiday Food Store. There is only poison. I started taking these images years ago in an attempt to bring light to the food desert situation, but also to use the text within the signage as source material for my collages.
