Raghurajpur Tales

This photo was taken in Raghurajpur in Orissa, India. Raghurajpur is a heritage crafts village famous for it's Pattachitra painters, an art form which dates back to 5 BC in the region. Here two women were sitting in courtyard of their home and when I approached them to tell regarding their craft they were more than happy to explain certain fine points. There are around 120 homes in this village decorated with mural paintings, where the painters reside and practice their pattachitra craft, besides many other that practices throughout the village, including traditional masks, stone idols, papier mache, sculptures, wooden toys.
