18th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
Hoodoo Haven

The hoodoos in Bryce Canyon National Park are sculpted by the earth over millions of years. They continue to break, crack, erode, freeze and thaw over millions of years and you can see them for a fleeting moment and that's what this is. They will be different the next time you visit and someday, maybe gone forever. They are so ornate and emotional, it feels like they have a mind of their own.
