Horses in the Gobi Desert

Horses are an important part of Mongolian culture and herds are seen almost everywhere -- and reflect the essence of place for Mongolia. While driving through the Gobi Desert this year on a trip to Mongolia, we spied a herd of horses crossing the road and stopped. We watched from our van as the horses were gathered and the mares quieted so that they could be milked for the traditional fermented mare's milk.
