Houses of fisherfolk on Loktak Lake rest on floating islands made of biomass called ‘phumdi’.
On Loktak Lake, fisherfolk have built their lives around a biomass called phumdi. In this image, next to their houses built on the floating mass are circular fish culture ponds made using phumdi. A handful of fisherfolk navigate the waters in their dugout canoes.
