Huaorani spiritual leader
Waika, one of the female elders of the Huaorani community in Ecuador! The Huaorani are locked in a long and bitter battle with the numerous petroleum companies encroaching on their land and are claiming that because of the way the Huaorani live - spread over a massive area and organised in small villages - they do not constitute one tribe and as such, do not deserve tribal protections!
