23rd Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest People
Human Flood

A hum echoes from wall to wall, The silent noise of the concrete streets. Every face a story, every step a purpose, Everyone rushes; this sword is elusive. It accumulates and flows like a river, Some's joy, some's troubles. There's a rush in their eyes, a tight bag in their hand, The flood of people passes, unstoppable in this overflow. Time is forgotten, places are lost, Thousands of people in solitude. Yet shoulders touch, Who can resist this great flow?
