I spent time in Amboseli in October of this year (2022). There is a terrible drought there and already 8 elephants had died. You could tell they were tired, trekking far every day from where they slept to get water. And many carcasses of other animals strewn around. The elephants had incredible personalities. This close up seems to reflect all the things this elephant has seen over the years, the current suffering, his wisdom. To me his eye spoke volumes.
