“I lived here when it was still cotton farms.”
Johnny Lester, 72 years old, lives in a mostly impoverished, predominantly African American housing community in Mayfield, Georgia. The tiny rural population is threatened by the construction of a nearby rock quarry. He used to work this land when it was a cotton farm before it became housing.
