18th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
Icelandic Lupines
Driving around Iceland, you will see fields and fields of lupines. They're incredibly beautiful and apparently very prolific. I was shocked to learn that they are not indigenous to the island. In fact, they were brought over in the 1940s from North America to combat soil erosion.
