In Memory of Sgt. John J. Clark

While traveling from Bakersfield, CA, to Salt Lake City, UT, Sgt. Clark stopped near the spot of this grave marker. Legend has it he wandered around looking for water, but didn't find any. So, he tied his horse to his wagon and crawled underneath it. He presumably died of thirst. His body was found on June 30, 1915. The cross signifies his death.
