17th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Natural World
In the morning's fine weather

Mt.zao crossing the prefectural boundaries of Miyagi prefecture and Yamagata prefecture in Japan is a volcano that continues to be active. In winter, snow falls over 10 meters, but in the fall a beautiful autumn tint begins and it stains to yellow and red. On sunny mornings, the mountain skins are beautifully illuminated and show superb views. The crater lake called "Okama" is changed from blue to blue, and when the sun begins to shine it changes its color to emerald green.
