16th Annual Smithsonian Magazine Photo Contest Travel
Infinitely small to infinitely large
The photo was taken in the largest salt flats in the world in Uyuni, Bolivia. It depicts a person standing at a distance observing the sunset in the Bolivian salt flats in Oct 2017. The reflection of the clouds in the salts' water creates a funnel opening up in the direction of the person's gaze, creating a sense of immense space contrasting with the tiny human being, hence the photo name.
