Interworlding was conceptualized and born during the Covid-19 pandemic. It evolved during the unraveling and exploitation of inequality, racism, sexism, and corrupt policies that had been brought directly to the masses. In a time when we were all isolated, technology became our only neighbor. The innovations in media technology and platforms had hastened the distribution of ideas, and brought these previously unmentionable subjects to the forefront of public consciousness and conversation. With the third year of the pandemic approaching, and injustices on all fronts in need of extreme action, society has been branded with the feeling that we may never climb out of this crumbling fate. Blakelee used large-scale canvases and immersive performance media to express a variety of reactions within this unprecedented time; ultimately demanding the viewer to question their role, their participation, and their observations in correlation to the work in front of them. Interworlding tests the tolerance of forced, biological, system alterations that women and planet have endured since genesis. The artist believes that by constructing abstract displays of current events through visual and physical work, rational thought and moral obligations will not only be challenged, but changed. The objectification of color and concept moves the audience into a post-human mindset. The work is intended to prompt the audience to question themselves and their actions. To elicit a feeling of discomfort. To demand a realization that Earth is not man’s slave.
